Metal - The Future of Roofing

Take a drive through any neighborhood, and you are starting to see more and more metal roofs. Why the surge in popularity and is a metal roof the right choice for you?

Traditionally, asphalt shingle roofs have been product of choice for roof replacements. This was mostly due to the lower cost of shingles relative to other choices. Shingles are processed from petroleum refining waste, and are subject to the wild ups and downs of the oil market - often dictated by foreign governments. Additionally, recent federal regulations require refiners to use utilize more waste for fuel products. This means there is less left for shingle manufacturing which has led to multiple price increases per year over the past several years. It's safe to say this will probably continue into the future.

Steel on the other hand is a stable commodity. All of the iron used for our metal panels is mined and processed in the US. Steel prices have remained consistent over the past several years and are now comparable to shingles. Given the durability of steel compared to shingles, metal roofing is by far the more economical choice.

A shingle roof is meant to last 25-30 years. Unfortunately, shingles are easily damaged by wind and hail and often have to be replaced much sooner than that. I've seen numerous 1-2 year old roofs recently that have needed to be replaced because of storm damage! Asphalt shingles cannot be recycled, so all of those roofs are taking up valuable landfill space.

Our metal roofing carries a 40 year fade guarantee. It is virtually impervious to wind and hail damage. If properly maintained, the steel itself will last 80-100 years. These truly are lifetime roofing systems! Plus, metal roofing is 100% recyclable. With 30 color options and various profiles available, metal roofing is set to become the dominant product of choice for the average homeowner in need of a new roof.
